Taste.Refinement.High culture.
The French have made undeniable and revolutionary contributions to the artistic world in every discipline. This is especially clear musically in the world of the flute, where the French, as a result of a series of revolutionary teachers in the early 20th century, laid the foundations and benchmarks for great flutistry that still exist today. Un Rêve de Flûte brings to life the refinement, kaleidoscopic colours, and virtuosity of French flute music, featuring works from such master composers as Camille Saint-Saens, Benjamin Godard, Francois Devienne, Philippe Gaubert, Francis Poulenc, Pierre Sancan, Jules Massenet, and Francois Borne. From the exotic orientalisms that perfume this enigmatic music, to the glittering courtly European flourishes, and the influence of nature in birdcalls and twitters, this is a program that has it all — a brilliant showcase of everything the flute dreams.
